Institute of Communication and Computer Networks

Cisco Networking Academy

The Cisco Networking Academy was established in 2002 and is attached to Poznań University of Technology. Currently, the Academy is the biggest institution of its kind in the Wielkopolska region. The Academy offers authorized training through a set of the courses developed by Cisco Systems.

Cisco Systems, in a close co-operation with governmental and educational institutions throughout the world, has undertaken an effort to alleviate the problem of ongoing shortages of networking specialists among IT professionals. In 1997, a specially-designed educational programme was initiated - Cisco Networking Academy Program (CNAP) - that aims at promoting theoretical knowledge and practical skills in issues related to computer networks.

The programme has been divided into 7 terms. The first 4 terms provide students of the CNAP programme with basic knowledge and required experience to obtain a certificate of the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). The following 3 terms prepare students for Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) examinations. The highest level of Cisco professional certificates is represented by Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) certificate that, for the time being, are not included in the programme of networking academies.

Education and training within the framework of the CNAP programme have been a great success. Over 10,000 educational centers in 152 countries are involved in providing courses to more than 469,000 future specialists.

The current internet revolution provides amazing new opportunities in educational methods. Nowadays knowledge transfer is very dependent on technology and access to information available on the internet is absolutely crucial in the process of learning.

The curriculum of Cisco Networking Academy reflects current trends and tendencies and is carried out in educational institutions. Knowledge is being transferred by the application of different teaching methods. Therefore, traditional forms of teaching such as lectures and classes are complemented with numerous laboratory classes that provide many opportunities to solve real problems with the application of a vast array of self-learning internet and multimedia packages and tools.

The curriculum of Cisco Networking Academy is constantly evolving in response to ever-changing needs and requirements in relation to the state-of-the-art technological developments. At the same time, maintaining continuous contact between Cisco and the academies involved in offering the courses is one of the principles of the co-operation. Such a mutual communication makes it possible to update the curriculum depending on the needs of the students and the requirements set up by the labour market.
