BONE - Building the Future Optical Network in Europe
Duration
01.01.2008 - 28.02.2011Financing entity
EU - FP7Summary
In the BONE project, the Chair staff performed tasks pertaining to optical switching systems and preparing a syllabus for an MSc programme in optical networks. The research was done on two topics. One concerned the control algorithms for multiplane optical switching fabrics (pursued jointly with the Politecnico di Milano), and the other involved building optical electronic switches to be used in access networks. The chief results obtained in the course of this work include:- Developing a new control algorithm for log2(N, 0, p) fabrics and its implementation in FPGA circuits,
- Developing a rearranging algorithm for banyan-type fabrics,
- Developing a new architecture of an optical switching fabric built of asymmetric optical switching elements,
- Developing packet transfer planning algorithms in single- and multistage switching fields with VOQ buffering and their implementation in FPGA circuits.
